The Writing Center for Teacher-Writers

Here's where you go to grow as a teacher-writer and as a teacher of writers!

Welcome to the Teach Write Academy's Writing Center for Teacher-Writers

This is the place to go when you want to grow as a teacher who writes and to learn how to use your experience as a teacher-writer to become a stronger teacher of writers!

When you become a member of the Teach Write Academy's Writing Center for teacher-writers, you will have access to the latest information, inspiration, and connection that you need to grow your writing practice. In turn, you will gain valuable insights that you can take back into your writing classroom.

The best part is the connection and community to other teacher-writers you can find here as well!

Whether you are looking for a little support or a lot, have a well established writing habit or are just beginning, this is the place to go to grow as a teacher-writer!

Why should you join us?

Writing is a solitary act -- it's just you and your words. Teaching can some times be the same way, can't it?

And being a teacher-writer? It is a beautiful, but rare gift that is often not shared by those we spend our days working beside.

Being a part of a thriving community of others who are experiencing the same things you are as a teacher-writer can make the writing experience rich and even more meaningful.

The Teach Write Academy's Writing Center for Teacher-Writers IS that thriving community!

Here you will find other educators who are not only looking to deepen their own writing life, but who are striving to strengthen their teaching of writers.

Don't have a writing habit yet? No problem. In the Teach Write Academy's Writing Center for Teacher-Writers you will find lots of inspiration, writing ideas, encouragement and support to get you writing!

What's included with your Writing Center for Teacher-Writers membership?

  • One online writing workshop each month (the first Sunday of each month from 3:00 - 4:30 pm ET) where we will write together, talk about writing, and share stories from our writing classrooms.
  • Access to a private Facebook group where you will find daily inspiration, information, education and opportunities to get you writing and sharing your writing.
  • A 10% discount on ALL Teach Write Academy courses

Frequently Asked Questions

I am just a beginning writer. Will I fit in here?  Absolutely, YES! The Writing Center for Teacher-Writers is a welcoming, supportive community for teacher-writers of ALL levels. We are all here to support you no matter where you are in your writing journey, even if you are starting fresh.

I don't have Facebook. Can I still join? You certainly can, but just know that a lot of the information and inspiration that is shared happens through Facebook. You will still have access to the virtual writing workshop, resources, and optional coaching since those do not require the use of Facebook.

How will the Writing Center for Teacher-Writers help me be a better writing teacher? Much of the information we share is selected because it helps you grow your writing life. We believe that teachers who write make the best teachers of writers and the advice that is good for you is often good for your student-writers too. In our monthly virtual writing workshop, we will talk about how we can use our experiences as a teacher-writer to deepen our writing instruction. Plus, when you are a part of the community, you are encouraged to share your classroom writing experiences so others can learn from them too!

When is the monthly virtual writing workshop held? You are invited to write with us in a virtual writing workshop using Zoom. The workshop is held the first Sunday of every month from 3:00 - 4:30 pm ET.

What is the monthly virtual writing workshop like?
Each month's virtual writing workshop will begin with a short catch-up conversation followed by a writing activity. (You may find these writing activities would work great in your classroom too!) We will then talk about our classroom writing instruction by sharing our celebrations, concerns, and questions and offer each other support and ideas that can be taken back to the classroom.

Is there a discount available? When you sign up for the Writing Center using our yearly plan, you are given two months free! That's 12 months for the price of 10.

My Story

Hi there! I'm Jennifer Laffin, the founder of Teach Write LLC and the Teach Write Academy.

I am a former elementary-level  teacher who struggled with teaching writing -- until I became a writer myself. It was only when I began my own writing journey that I began to understand how to best teach my students to do the same. And I'm so glad I did!

Teach Write is dedicated to helping teachers and their students grow as writers and the Writing Center for Teacher-Writers is my way of helping you do that!

I've worked with hundreds of educators who have made the connection between being a writer and being a writing teacher and it has changed their teaching practice (and life!)  immensely.

I want to help you do the same! Won't you join me?

Testimonials

"Prior to my participation in the Teach Write community, I considered myself a teacher who dreams of being a writer...someday.  I held this dream of becoming a writer for most of my life, yet for various reasons, I denied myself permission to realize my dream.  My yearning to write, though, continued to grow, so I decided to do something about it.

My participation in the Teach Write community encourages my writing voice to step out of the shadows and be heard.  I am learning that taking “me time” to write each day is okay, in fact, necessary."
Tracy Vogelgesang
"I started getting involved with Teach Write just before January, 2018. I always had goals of keeping up with a blog, but as evidenced by five years of starting out strong and losing momentum by the second week of the year...I needed something to keep me accountable.

I wrote on January 1, 2018 and linked my blog post to the daily check-ins for writing habits. This became a true habit for me and I ended up writing and checking in 366 days straight into 2019.

I have learned so much about myself as a writer. I have grown and found my voice. Writing has become a strength of mine as well as a habit. I am now onto new projects including articles and books.

I now write daily, but not only on my blog as I did in 2018. I will keep this momentum thanks to the wonderful people at Teach Write."
